Can a house fail the home inspection?

Can it pass or fail?

Nope.

A house can’t fail a home inspection.

This question comes up occassionally.

But a home can fail a city code inspection when your home was built or when future work requires a building permit.

The building permit prevents poor craftsmanship because the city inspector gets involved and makes periodic spot checks on the work as it progresses.

But, the information in a professional home inspection is for you and you alone.

You can use the information any way you want – to negotiate repairs with the seller or completely ignore it all.

It’s totally up to you.

However, there are mortgage loan programs that require certain items to get repaired before you close on a home.

Your lender will have those details for you.
